“Temari “ Inspired Baubles Workshop - Part (1)
November 15th 2025

Our Christmas themed workshop this year is spread over two Guild meetings, November and December, where we hope that you will
join us making festive baubles inspired by the beautiful Japanese
craft of Temari.

If you have not come across this before Temari is a traditional craft
of creating embroidered balls - often with geometric designs -
that were used as toys. They are now considered to be gifts that symbolise friendship, loyalty and good luck.

For the first workshop we will be making felted balls for the core
of our balls, so that they dry completely before decorating them
in the December workshop.

You will need to bring :

  • Fibre suitable for wet felting or needle felting such as merino

  • Towel for the drips

  • Needle felting needles and a foam base
(only if you will be needle felting)

We will have soap, jugs for water and bowls as well as a limited amount of the supplies above.

Do not worry if you are new to felting, there will be help on hand from other members.

If you prefer you can make the core of your ball from scraps of material, yarn or even clean fibre waste from carding and old tights.  There are some useful video links below if you would like to have a look at any of the techniques or learn a little more about Temari balls beforehand.

Amanda Hannaford

Spinning improvers workshop

23/24 June 2024

We are fortunate to have persuaded Amanda to lead this workshop as she is a very experienced ‘spinner’ with a wealth of knowledge, who is doing less travelling nowadays (from the West Country).

The course schedule has yet to be finalised but will be built for improving members existing spinning skills.

So please take advantage of this brilliant opportunity.
If you have further questions, please contact Denise/Gloria by replying to this email and we will do our best to answer them.
