The Story of Maximo Laura and Woven Colour with Della and Pete Storr

Maximo Laurais a tapestry weaver who is internationally recognized as one of South America's pre-eminent textile artists and the pride of Peru, his country of birth. Consultant, designer and lecturer in Art and Contemporary Andean textile design, his work is in collections worldwide and has been exhibited in 72 solo and numerous group shows. In 2011 he was at Art in Action, in Oxfordshire.
In 2009, Della had the opportunity to visit Peru on a textile tour with Puchka Peru. During the tour, Della met Maximo Laura and participated in a tapestry workshop lead by him. Having admired Maximo's work on his web site, Della was still stunned when seeing his work for real: his artistry, designs and colours, the colour blending and texture.
Della decided she had to have one and brought one of his tapestries home as a ‘present' for Pete, her husband.  He was very impressed and they decided to order more tapestries to hang on their walls. They were delighted that Maximo Laura appointed them to be his UK agents and have established Woven Colour to bring these beautiful works of art to the attention of the UK art lover.

Visit the Woven Colour website for more information or read this illustrated interview with Maximo Laura from the World of Threads Festival site.
